Media Room’s Publisher, Frank Housh, is an All About Jazz Contributor and serves on the jury for the National Book Critics Circle’s Greg Barrios Books in Translation Award. He is a member of the Greater Western New York Film Critics Association.
Publisher Biography
A native of Kansas City, Frank Housh began college studying classical guitar performance (UMKC Conservatory of Music) and finished with a philosophy degree from the University of Kansas. He moved to Buffalo in 1990 and earned his law degree from SUNY Buffalo School of Law in 1993.
While in law school, Frank was selected for The Buffalo Law Review and a Ford Fellowship at the United Nations Human Rights Committee in Geneva. He also served a clerkship at the Texas Resource Center which represented death row inmates in Texas. He co-authored the initial brief in Johnson v. Texas, (1993), argued in the October 1992 Term of the United States Supreme Court.
Frank was a trial and appellate lawyer for thirty years, litigating cases as an Assistant District Attorney and in private practice before he opened his own civil rights firm in 2010. Frank closed his law practice in 2023 and began writing full-time.
Housh was an adjunct law professor, National Book Review Editor and Chair of the Buffalo Chapter of the American Constitution Society, and regular columnist for the Buffalo Law Journal and the Harvard Law and Policy Review.
Arts writing was an avocation, and Frank was a music critic for The Buffalo Spree for ten years.
He is a long-time advocate for public libraries and a Past Chairman of the Buffalo and Erie County Library System.
Frank was a founder and former Managing Editor of The Buffalo Hive, a not-for-profit, online newspaper dedicated to arts and cultural journalism.
