Last week began with my valentine to the cancelled Adult Swim TV show “Three Busy Debras,” followed by Wednesday’s preview and Friday’s review of Concert 4 of UB’s six concert Slee Beethoven Quartet Cycle performed by the Verona Quartet (below).

A Critic’s Manifesto

On Tuesday Media Room will publish the first installment of “A Critic’s Manifesto,” my attempt to see the way forward for devalued arts writing (by “arts” I mean music, books, film, etc.).

I respectfully suggest one reason most people don’t read reviews anymore is that the prevailing academic/corporate style of arts writing is as informative and entertaining as the performance evaluation HR insists that you read and sign.

There is a better way.
