It's Just Like "Titanic" With Handel Instead of Celine Dion
To be certain, most of us who attended the Buffalo Chamber Players’ Saturday, June 18th performance of Acis and Galatea at Asbury Hall were (like me) lovers of early music. Its theme of man’s role in the natural world, however, is urgent in the age of climate change.
Pastoralism
Pastoralism is a genre of art, like minimalism, surrealism, or (currently) post-modernism. In fact, a short trip on Delaware Avenue to the newly reopened AKG Museum would reveal that within its clear, post-modernist elements sits a brand-new “great lawn,” a clear pastoralist feature. Indeed, Handel himself would doubtless regard the great lawn as an ideal setting for Acis and Galatea.
