Billie Martin is a precocious talent who began writing and performing in her native Yorkshire (UK) at the tender age of 8. Her songs quickly garnered attention and her most recent release, Drop Cherries (Fiction Records, April 7, 2023), is her eighth. Quite a body of work for a 23 year old.
“Drop Cherry” is similar to her previous releases which feature her breathy, cherubic soprano. Her music is personal rather than narrative, reflecting a deep inner life. The thirteen songs on Drop Cherries are often bittersweet expressions of lost love that offer remarkable depth. From This is How We Move:
